Mobility Device Service
The Mobility Device Service (MDS) provides wheelchairs and other mobility devices, free of charge, to those in need. Assessments and fittings are carried out at a dedicated facility at Tamavua Hospital by a trained team of professional therapists. The team also travel throughout Fiji - especially to areas hit by TC Winston, providing essential services and products.
Anyone requiring an assessment should attend Tamavua Hospital in person and fill in an assessment form.

Since 2010 SIA has received and issued seven 40ft containers of mobility aids and appliances together with medical consumables from Physionet UK. The British-based charity organisation donates this equipment whilst SIA with its corporate partners cover shipping and handling costs. ATH Vodafine Fiji Foundation has supported with complete shipping and handling for the last 6 containers. Also, there have been three 40ft containers of wheelchairs and walking aids donated by LDS Charities, including shipping and handling costs. In addition, Jim Gilchrist of New Zealand provided two 20ft containers, Masilina Cox of Australia two consignments, United Cerebral Palsy Alliance Australia three consignments, Motivation Australia three consignments, Wheelchair Foundation USA two consignments and one consignment from Wheelchair for Kids Australia.
The value of in-kind contributions provided by our donors is priceless, as these items would be well beyond the reach of the SIA otherwise. Aside from the equipment, donors have provided essential training for our staff in wheelchair assessment and fitting; allowing us to provide service excellence to all those who come to us in need.
